Nozawa Onsen Snow Report, 4th of March 2019
The forecast has definitely improved, even since yesterday. While it may be a little warm to snow at village level right now, we’re expecting more than a handful up top today. The current forecast suggests double digits tonight. That much and then some is currently expected to arrive Wednesday night and throughout Thursday. It might be difficult to believe with all the spring weather we’ve been seeing for past few weeks but it looks like winter is soon to make a welcome return (at least at the top of the mountain).
This week may be an ordinary one at village level. The warmer temperatures may have us believe that the rain is all doom and gloom. However, head to the mountain where the temps are a little lower and the water turns to snow. If the forecast for the top of Mount Kenashi is even vaguely on point, we’ll have a fair amount of Magic March-ing powder up top.
Not only are the accommodation rates in March (and April) pocket-friendly but lift passes are cheaper too. Couple this with the fact that there are far fewer people around at this time of year and you’ve got yourself a pretty good spring skiing holiday. The timing is right this year too coincide a quick Japan skiing trip with cherry blossoms. Spring in Japan is all about seeing the sakura but in Nozawa Onsen, it’s also about sliding down the mountain!
So what is the official word from the top of the mountain this morning?
At 8 am;
Temp at the top; 1C
New snow since close; 1cm
Base at the top; 260cm
Weather; cloudy
See you on the mountain!
