Nozawa Onsen Uncrowded Runs
Another day of uncrowded slopes here in Nozawa Onsen yesterday! Despite warm and wet conditions in town we were again treated to wide open runs on perfect corduroy.
Temperature up top: -2 degrees
New snow since close: 1cm
Base at top: 100cm
Snow conditions: Compacted snow
Weather: Cloudy
Thankfully the warmer temperatures eased up in the afternoon and we received a light dusting of snow overnight. This should make for nice conditions today, especially on groomers. The forecast ahead is looking very healthy, with more snow forecasted for this evening and tomorrow morning. A bit of sunshine expected for Saturday, and then what is looking to be some more serious snowfall for a few days afterwards
Runs up higher on the mountain are likely to have the best riding today, so think about heading up to the runs on Yamabiko. Unfortunately due to rainy conditions down lower Skyline has been closed, so if you’re heading back to the village Forest Trail (run 21) or Ushikubi (black run 22) are your best bets.
In the village we are still enjoying the empty onsens and uncrowded restaurants. If you are in town you should check out some of the local izakayas and enjoy some local sake before the crowds arrive for the Dosojin festival. We still have availability for this time next year, so if you’re thinking about experiencing the best snow in Japan follow the link below!
