Nozawa Spring, Skiing and Sakura
As each day brings with it new signs of spring, there’s still some great skiing to be had up top! Enjoy Nozawa spring, skiing and sakura!
Thursday 12th of April 2018
Temp at Top: 3 degrees
Weather: Overcast/forecast to clear
Base at top: 175cm
Base at Uenotara station: 75cm
New snow since close: 0 cm
Each day it becomes more obvious that the beauty of the Green Season is drawing ever closer. However, there’s still plenty of skiing to be had up top. Past the second station on on the gondola, it suddenly becomes apparent there remains a fairly healthy base to ski on. In addition to the Nagasaka Gondola, two chair lifts remain open servicing the top runs.
The clouds are forecast to clear today and reveal another magic April day. Tomorrow too is said to be bright skies. At present, it looks like a bit of a mixed bag for the rest of the week with a bit of rain for Saturday evening in the village. But as every cloud has a silver lining, it could bring a dusting of snow to the top of Mount Kenashi.
As the image above shows, cherry blossoms have finally made it to the area. This tree is just outside our Kaiya lodge (which will stay open throughout the Green Season) and are only just starting to bloom. While a lot of the sakura have been and gone in other parts, in our region the bloom happens a little later. Driving back from Tokyo yesterday, the pink shades of the sakura trees became more and more abundant. It made the latter half of the journey to Nozawa a uniquely pretty one, particularly in nearby Iiyama.
The Changing of the Seasons
In Japan, there is quite an obvious change of the seasons and it’s magic to witness. As we see the cherry blossoms reach the area, it’s a reminder of the splendor to come. The Green Season will soon be upon us. The warmer months bring their own treasures and pleasures to Nozawa Onsen.
