Good morning all. And so we repeat the cycle. It’s a foggy morning down here in the village with the hills and peaks piercing through the valley fog. What a lucky week it’s been! It’ll be excellent across the whole mountain today, both on and off piste. The groomers are silky smooth and the off piste zones have filled in quite nicely during the recent storm cycles. Yamabiko trees have begun to open up much more, especially after this last system. It’ll be a touch busier on the mountain today with the Japanese holiday crowds.
Yesterday was another wild day. Very deep snow made the going tough with a lot of stuck riders floundering in the deep powder, including myself. Heavy snow continued through the day adding another 18cm to an ever increasing base, which topped out at 270cm during the afternoon.
Later today we will see snowfalls ramp up again with another shallow NW flow flanking the region. This is a tough one to call with a small low crossing the coast. The north westerlies don’t extend across the entire Sea of Japan. Therefore Im not calling huge figures on this one as predicted on a lot of the automated forecasts. Perhaps 20-30cm or so. Following this the next few days will probably be rather fine as high pressure occupies Nozawa’s airspace.
