Powder Day Nozawa Onsen
Yesterday we had the most epic of powder days! With more than one metre of fresh snow falling over the last few days, the resort has been full of eager people excited to experience the best of the Japanese winter. Most of the resort is open now and there are so many wondrous places to explore. Will be even better today with almost another “: Half a Meter” of snow falling overnight!
One of the best runs is Skyline. It’s a long looping track tracing down the side of the mountain, offering beautiful views down into the valley and Nozawa Onsen lying far below. It is over 7 Km long if start at the top of Yamabiko and hook into it all the way. Your thighs will be creaming at you by the end!
The snow is forecast to continue falling today and into tomorrow, so there will be lots of fresh powder to try and get first tracks in! Have fun skiing and exploring.
Keep an eye out for night skiing this weekend from 4:30 to 8pm too.
TODAY:
Temperature at the top; -5 degrees
New snow since yesterday; 43cm of fresh powder!
Base at the top; 180cm
Snow conditions; Powder! It will be deep in places, especially around the trees.
Weather; Snowing with the snowfall becoming heavier throughout the day.
LIFTS IN OPERATION:
- Most access lifts are in operation from 8:00am and other lifts open from 8:10 or 8:15.
- The Hikage Quad is closed due to maintenance.
- Please check nozawaski.com for the latest updates and closing times.
RUNS OPEN;
- All runs are open including Skyline with the exception of:
- Kandahar East, Yunomine A, Mukobayashi, Grandprix, Hachiman, and Half Pipe.
- The Snow Park and Kandahar West are partially open.
- Please do not ski in restricted areas. There is still insufficient snow cover in many places and it’s dangerous to ski outside of the resort area without proper backcountry experience.
SNOW FORECAST:
The snow isn’t going to stop. In fact, the snow will continue falling throughout the day. We should see just under 30 more centimetres by the end of the day. Tomorrow looks like the snow factory will start to pull back with snow showers easing. Friday and Saturday are currently looking cloudy with the sun’s shine reaching through.
Check back tomorrow for the latest updates and in the mean time, tag #nozawaonsenjapan to share your photos from another amazing day out in the powder.
