Hugo is the top dog in charge of both our rental shop and our ski school.
Originally from the wine region Rioja in the north of Spain, Hugo is joining us for his 8th consecutive season at Nozawa Onsen.
He’s been riding for more than 30 years. Growing up, it was only a 45-minute drive from his hometown to the bottom chairlift of his local field.
When Hugo’s not skiing or boarding, you’ll find him on two wheels, biking, cycling and mountain biking.
A restless traveller, Hugo spends his summers surfing in Indonesia or scuba diving in Thailand.
Hugo will help sort your rental gear this season. Book online and you’ll receive an appointment time to come to our rental shop at Nozawa Central.
We try and fit you the afternoon you arrive in the village, meaning you can get straight to riding the fresh powder the next morning.

“You’ve got to be patient. It’s tricky to navigate. And it requires practice and speed. But once you’ve got it, it’s the most beautiful feeling in the world,” he says.
Nozawa Holidays Ski Locker
With a gear locker right next to the slopes below Nagasaka Gondola, we’ll save you lugging your gear up the mountain too after you’ve been fitted. The team at Nozawa Central Rentals will drop the gear to the Ski Locker and it will be waiting for you. can return it there on the last day too.
You can store your gear there for your entire stay at Nozawa Onsen.
Our rental shop is open for both Nozawa Holidays guests and any other visitors to Nozawa Onsen.
Up top this morning there was a top up of new snow. Hopefully will see 10cm more tomorrow.
AND! A big front passing over is forecasted for Saturday, predicting 30cm of new snow. Fingers crossed the forecast holds.
