Skiing Nozawa Onsen Japan
Calm before the storm in Nozawa
Lots of big smiles on the hill yesterday for what many guests were describing as an epic day. With blue skies, frosted trees and nice snow conditions, people were having a great time on the slopes.
Not many people around either which always helps. Looking like another sunny start to the day here as I peer out my window and drink my morning coffee. No new snow overnight but the groomers and views should be on point.
Todays Japanese word is “Hare” which means Sunny.
🌄TODAY:
Temperature at the top; -4 degrees
New snow since yesterday; 0cm
Base at the top; 140cm
Snow conditions; Compacted snow so we recommend sticking to the groomers. Will be hard pack early but should soften under the sunshine
Weather; Light winds and Sunshine with a strong North West change due tonight and heavy snow to follow it
🚡LIFTS IN OPERATION:
All lifts apart from the Karasawa Double and Challenge Double are open.
🌄RUNS OPEN: Same as yesterday
☃️SNOW FORECAST:
About 20cm of fresh snow expected tonight and into tomorrow with very cold temps down to -11 most of the day Saturday. Sunday and Monday will be mainly fine then looking like a Siberian storm from Monday night with over 50cm expected and very cold temps with wind chill down as low as -30 degrees. So bust the thermals out.
The rhythm is looking proper winter now for the next 10 days and it is welcome. We would normally have a higher base this time of year so a bit of catching up to do. Conditions have managed to stay pretty good for everyone but if all the forecast snow lands the landscape will change pretty quickly.
Have a great day out there and stay tuned for live reports from Nozawa as they unfold.
