Welcome to the Nozawa Onsen Snow Forecast and Snow Report. We are the longest running Snow Report for Nozawa Onsen. Based here for 30 years now we hope we know the village and snow as good as most. We do however always look to the elders in the village for unparalleled experience in reading the conditions and knowing what to expect from season to season in Nozawa. Many of the local farmers have lived by the weather here for decades now and know it like the back of their hand. We thank them for their input and support over the years

The weather as we all know it is very unpredictable as with anywhere in the world. It is even more so in the mountains. If you want to enjoy the snow sometimes you have to weather the storm. So really we can look at all the maps, charts and predictions but never know for sure what we get until it happens.

Nozawa gets a lot of snow! Averaging 14 meters of snow fall a year and base depth of around 3.5 meters on average over the years. With global warming I feel we may be getting less snow than we used to so we all need to do our bit to ensure the white gold keeps falling. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle please 🙂

Today’s Nozawa Report Nozawa Onsen

Pea Soup mid week hump in Nozawa 

After some magic days on the slopes the weather has turned and the amazing blue skies we had have disappeared. Good news is that it is snowing up top but not cold enough for the village and we are getting lashed by rain down here. 

The Ski Resort is reporting almost 20cm of fresh snow for Yamabiko from close yesterday and through today. Looking at the web cams you can’t see much and not so inviting but there is sunshine expected from tomorrow so we may see another day like this one a few days ago for Yamabiko. 

The Forecast is starting to shape up too with a good rhythm ahead of good size dumps followed by sun filled days. With almost no one around if you can get up please do as there will be some fun days ahead of the New Years crowds.
