Swimming in snow.
A lot can change in 24 hours, e.g. Nozawa Onsen.
Base at top: 140 cm
Temp at Top: -9 Degrees
Base at Uenotaira station: 130 cm
New snow since close: 70 cm
Weather: Snowing but expected to clear up later today
The base up top has DOUBLED in the last 24 hours, the town is swimming in snow, and all our arms ache from shovelling.
It is wonderful.
Yesterday at 1pm we were still getting fresh powder tracks on Yamabiko. Shaun, one of our prized snowboard instructors states “It was snowy. It was white. The most snow I can remember this early in the season”. That is all that needs to be said. He is still trying to comprehend it himself, we all are.
Since then, we have received another 70cm overnight and an extra 10cm from 8-10am this morning. Some morning reviews of the mountain have described that it is like skiing back country whilst on piste. Yes it has been groomed, although as the snow doesn’t stop falling, the powder keeps increasing layer by layer. Get out your powder skis!
It will be a great day on the mountain today, with the skies clearing into the afternoon and some expected sunshine tomorrow before another big dump on the 16th.
With the season looking this great early on, we can’t wait to see it progress.
