50cm overnight and another 20cm this morning in Nozawa Onsen!
Nozawa Onsen is swimming in snow this morning. Thick flakes are falling from the sky and it doesn’t look like it will be stopping til this evening.
The contrast between yesterday and today is crazy. Yesterday we were skiing under blue skies on freshly groomed slopes, the perfect carving conditions. It is nothing like that today with 50cm of fresh powder and white all around.
As the snow is coming down so heavily, visibility may be minimal, yet you could be getting fresh tracks on each run. The much anticipated Challenge and Schneider runs have opened today which will be a blast in these conditions. We are only awaiting a few more lifts to open and then the mountain will be in full swing.
We only expected around 30cm last night so waking to 50cm plus has been a treat. The snowfall will continue for the duration of the day and get lighter into the evening. Sunshine and blue skies are expected for tomorrow which will be incredible after todays snowfall. Might call a sickie at work…
Hope you packed a snorkel as you’ll be swimming in powder today! Take care on the slopes and road as it is a bit hectic with this intense fall.
If you are feeling chilly and are looking for a great place to warm up, head to the Gondola Cafe which has opened today! Right underneath the Nagasaka Gondola Station and situated inside Mt’ Dock Rentals, they have good coffee, snacks and apres drinks. Grab a takeaway coffee for the gondola ride or come in for a drink after your day of skiing!
