Snowstorm beginning Nozawa Onsen
The past weekend has been unusually spring-like and warm, with slushy, sticky snow conditions! One can’t complain about the blue skies though as they truly lift your spirits compared to being surrounded by dark, grey clouds.
I popped off to Myoko Kogen over the weekend, skiing at Ikenotaira. It was a beautiful small field with epic views down onto the lower plains, over to the Sea of Japan and you can even spot Nozawa Onsen and the Skyline run in the distance. They have a nifty jump park and would be a great slope to take your family for the day.
No wild boars were spotted during my weekend – have you seen the video going around?
It’s great to be back skiing at Nozawa Onsen today. And winter is not over yet!
This evening, the temperatures will start to drop and the snowfall will get heavier. It’s looking to be an exciting week ahead with powder days and bluebird days on the horizon too. Crowds will also disappear from later today with the long weekend wrapping up for a relatively quiet fun week ahead.

Temperature at the top; 0 degrees on Yamabiko, 0 degrees on Uenotaira
New snow since yesterday; 0cm
Base at the top; 230cm

SNOW FORECAST:
And now begins our week of a sudden return to full cold winter conditions. This afternoon will see an abrupt Northerly wind change bring with it freezing temps and good falls of fresh snow. Over night, there will be heavy snowfall, bringing just under 20cm. Tuesday will see moderate snowfall all day, with another dump of snow overnight – just under 30cm by the next morning. Light to moderate snowfall also for Wednesday. At the moment, it’s forecast for two days of relief with Thursday and Friday shaping up to be bluebird powder days. Below freezing temperatures will remain however.
Looking to the long range forecast – next week is all looking snowy with a snowstorm rolling in next weekend and continuing into the week ahead!
