Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 25th February 2019
There might not be a lot of fresh snow to talk about lately but there have been blessings of a different kind. A few days of the past week have been simply stunning days to be on the mountain or in the village. There’s a bit of cloud about but today should mostly concern itself with sunshine. Is there any new snow coming our way in the near future?
Maybe. The forecast for the coming week doesn’t show too much. However, it does look as though we’ll see snow of some degree fall on Thursday night. It’s presently only looking like a handful but that could change. We’ve said it many times already this season; they often forecast “a bit” only to be blessed with “heaps”. Let’s hope that happens again.
It could come even earlier. The temperatures are set to drop considerably tomorrow. We may see a few snow showers bringing a fresh dusting to the top. Or perhaps Mother Nature will surprise us with more as it so often does.
What’s the official word from the top of the mountain?
At 7:45 am;
Temp at the top; 0C
New snow since close; 0cm
Base at the top; 270 cm
Weather; sunny
The Season to Come
There’s still plenty of the season to come and we’ll see some more fresh snow before it’s done. All things going well, we’ll be skiing right up until the end of Golden Week in early May. There are discounts on lift passes and accommodation throughout March and April. The warmer temps complement the discounts to ensure a pretty awesome way to spend the northern spring. Many people come to Nozawa during this time to get some runs in on a cherry blossom viewing holiday around Japan. If you’re heading this way to see the sakura bloom, there’s still availability to get in a bit of spring skiing Nozawa style!
Then comes the beauty of the Green Season!
What’s New in Nozawa?
Those people visiting that have been here over past seasons will recognise the traditional vibe that they love about Nozawa Onsen. However, there are a few new additions. Onsen fans will be interested to know that Shinden No-Yu has been knocked down and rebuilt right next to where it used to be.
In the same area, the new Kongo Night Market is proving to be a popular choice for diners and drinkers. The relaxed atmosphere provides a special place to eat and drink in a way that is uniquely Nozawa Onsen.
