Ski Resorts Near Nozawa
The clouds have lifted and dissolved away revealing a big blue sky. The stars were out last night, glittering away and reflecting their light on the snow! The sun has just peeked over Mt Kenashi this morning as I type this.
It’s going to be a brilliant day up on the mountain, complete visibility and endless views down to Nozawa Onsen, over the hills to Myoko and if you’re lucky, even a glimpse of the Sea of Japan on the horizon.
Warmer temperatures will mean spring-like riding conditions – put on that sunscreen and we’ll see you for a beer at Buna or for Aprés ski at the day’s end at Neo Bar.
Other skiing:
Did you know, there are 102 ski resorts in the Nagano prefecture including Nozawa Onsen!
And many of them are within one to two hours drive.
If you’re staying in Nozawa Onsen, it can be a great base for exploring these other ski fields for a day trip or an over-nigher. Nozawa is, of course, our favourite ski resort, but if you’re looking to change things up, try some new terrain, and seek some new views then we highly recommend going for an explore.
Most ski fields in Japan have pretty cheap day lift-passes compared to resorts in the rest of the world so it would be a shame to miss out on them.
Here’s a bit of a rundown on some other epic resorts:
- Togakushi Ski Resort – 1hr drive from Nozawa. More relaxed terrain, great for beginners and intermediates. You can also explore the nearby Giant Sugi (cedar trees) which line the path to the Togakushi Shrine. Some of more than 900 years old.
- Shiga Kogen – 1hr drive from Nozawa and a huge amount of ski terrain. Shiga has 48 lifts! It has the biggest and highest elevation of ski fields in the country, made up of 21 previously separate ski fields.
- Myoko Kogen – 50min drive from Nozawa. Myoko is made up of 5 ski resorts. Akakura, Akakura Kanko, Ikenotaira and Suginohara. All great on their day
- Hakuba – 1hr.50min drive from Nozawa. Hakuba village is actually a collection of many ski fields. There’s Tsgaike Kogen, which is a great family field, perfect for beginners to learn.
We have teamed up with some of our friends Myoko to bring you an awesome package that you can combine our two beautiful resorts in one trip with the March Magic Deal. Click here to look and book; https://www.nozawaholidays.com/news/nozawa-myoko-ski-package/
