Eating out in Japan is a little different to eating out in Australia!
The meals are cheap and sensational, the restaurants are a lot smaller and chances are it’s run by just two or three people.
There are so many fantastic places to eat during your stay in Nozawa Onsen – here are a few of our favourites!
Akibitei
Akibitei is an absolutely sensational spot for dinner – a little off the beaten track but well worth it! They specialise in okonomiyaki, a Japanese style savoury pancake. Let me tell you, there’s okonomiyaki and then there’s Akibitei’s okonomiyaki. You won’t find better anywhere!
The meals are all cooked on a hotplate in front of you and average about 800 yen per meal.
Yoshimi Soba
If you like noodles, Yoshimi Soba is the place for you! They have soba (buckwheat noodles), udon and rice dishes. Don’t forget your towel – they’re right next door to an onsen, so you can have a quick dip before you head home for the night.
Kaze no Ie
This one’s a little different! Kaze no Ie is an Italian restaurant, serving pizzas, pasta and all good things! The style of food is a little different to what you’d expect from an Australian Italian restaurant – but I think it may be better! Perfect for when you’re craving a Western food fix – they’re my go-to restaurant for salad and pizza!
Bonus Cafe – Carte
Not strictly a restaurant, but one of my favourite spots in Nozawa.
They do a sensational hot cocoa and New York cheesecake. Plus, it’s a cute spot to sit when you’re feeling a little chilly!
These are just a few of the sensational restaurants available in Nozawa Onsen. You can’t really go wrong – I’ve never had a bad meal and the vast majority of restaurants are super cheap.
