Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 29th December 2018 Fresh Snow Continues To Fall and Fall… As mentioned yesterday, we had what we might call a late start to the season. That’s all totally forgotten about now though! After the 35cm fall we awoke to yesterday, followed by the 30cm during the day, it has snowed some more. Right now, as of 9 am today, it continues to snow heavily, both on the mountain and in the village. Winter has certainly returned ladies and gents! Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 28th December 2018 Winter Has Arrived! If we compare this season to the early start we got last year, then perhaps we might feel like it has been a bit slow. Despite a few decent dumps and a healthy amount of snow up top of Mount Kenashi, we hadn’t seen what we coulc call “heaps”. Until now, that is… Officially, we got 35cm up top overnight (although there must have been about that much at village level) and more than 5cm since 8 am (as of 10:15 am). Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 27th December 2018 …And so it starts! There’s been a somewhat modest amount of snowfall on top of the mountain overnight. The good news, however, is that the 5cm we did receive is merely a small indicator of what is to come. Down here in the village it’s just started to fall over the past half an hour or so. Again, a sign of the good things in store for us. Let’s check out an update of the snow forecast for the top of Mount Kenashi. Nozawa Onsen Snow Report Christmas Day 2018 We must have been good this year… Us folks here in Nozawa Onsen must have been well behaved throughout this year. Not only did Santa top us up with 5cm on Mount Kenashi overnight, but he also brought us crystal clear conditions early this morning. That’s before we even mention that there’s plenty to be excited about on the forecast. Thursday night looks as though it’s going to make Friday a pretty epic day. Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 24th December 2018 It’s snowing today! Will we see a grey, blue or white Christmas? The above is a slightly complicated question. As ever, snow forecasts are never one hundred per cent accurate as Mother Nature enjoys making fun of us. At the time of writing, however, it looks as though Christmas Day will be the only day of this week where we don’t see snowfall. That might sound like slightly bad news but we’ve always got the option of looking at the other side of the coin. Which, of course, means we’re going to get some serious snow! Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 23rd December 2018 It’s going to be a big week! There are big things in store for the top of the mountain overnight, if the forecasters are correct. At the time of writing, we’re looking at well into the double digits both tonight and tomorrow morning. Whether or not that makes its way down to the village, we’ll just have to wait and see. Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 22nd December 2018 The Future Looks White! At this stage, it’s difficult to tell exactly what this morning’s fog will reveal when it lifts. What we do know is that the forecast is an extremely healthy one – not only for the end of this weekend but next week too. What are we referring to exactly? Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 21st December 2018 Snow to Follow Sun! At the top of the mountain, we got about 8cm more fresh snow overnight. One can never truly know exactly what the weather gods will bring but we can get a fair idea from the forecast. At this point, it’s telling us that a few snow showers on the mountain this morning will clear and give way to a clear, sunshine-filled afternoon. With a good amount having fallen Wednesday night to go with last night’s top-up, most of the mountain’s runs are now open. Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 20th December 2018 Fresh Nozawa Snow After a strange old night last night where we heard thunder rumbling above us, it was difficult to know what we might wake up to. The good news? “About 15 centimetres of fresh snow” is the answer to that question! Not only were we blessed with some fresh stuff but the skies cleared to give us a pretty awesome day on the mountain. Nozawa Onsen Snow Report 19th December 2018 Sun and Snow in Nozawa! It’s a foggy morning in Nozawa at present after a sunny, blue sky start up higher (as the image below shows). The forecast reckons a sunny morning should give way to a handful of centimetres this afternoon and this evening. Let’s hope the recent trend continues of being blessed with a lot more than has been predicted. Beyond today, we should see a few sun-dominated days before the white falls again on Sunday and through Monday. But as with all things weather, you can never be too sure.
