Almost Time to Soak Up the Sunshine on the Slopes in Nozawa Saturday 24th of March 2018 Temp at Top: -5℃ Weather: Foggy Base at top: 260cm Base at Uenotara station: 175cm New snow since close: 0 cm There was a thick fog enclosing the whole village first thing this morning. The surrounding mountains poked their peaks above and in to a clear blue sky, seemingly pointing towards the week ahead. The current forecast has Nozawa and Mount Kenashi both bathed in sunshine for the next week at least. The clouds and cold temps kept everything nice and fresh on piste. Things are a little clearer here this morning than they were yesterday. Fresh Nozawa Onsen Snow Tuesday 20th of March 2018 Temp at Top: -4℃ Weather: Foggy Base at top: 260cm Base at Uenotaira station: 180cm New snow since close: 5cm The image above shows the fog flowing over the mountains around Nozawa. It was a cool, foggy morning with light snow falling across the resort and down in the village. Five centimetres was reported to have fallen up top overnight and conditions are set to clear up this afternoon. When you stand on top of Mount Kenashi in Nozawa and look out, there’s not a sign of civilisation as far as the eye can see. Snow on the Horizon in Nozawa Onsen Monday 19th of March 2018 Temp at Top: 1℃ Weather: Cloudy Base at top: 260cm Base at Uenotaira station: 180cm New snow since close: 0cm There’s a bit of good news and a bit of not-as-good news today but I’m choosing to view things as glass-half-full. The forecasts tell us we’ll see more than 10 centimetres of fresh snow this time tomorrow at the top of the mountain. There’s also set to be a few cm on the bottom slopes. However, today we’re again reminded that it is in fact spring. It’s definitely a lot warmer today, both in town and on the mountain. That doesn’t mean we should be breaking out the t-shirts just yet. A Change in Conditions in Nozawa Onsen Friday 16th of March 2018 Temp at Top: 0℃ Weather: Light snow/rain Base at top: 260cm Base at Uenotara station: 180cm New snow since close: 0 cm The clouds cleared yesterday to reveal yet another brilliant Spring day. The snow was still quite fast and gave us a fantastic Magic March day on the mountain. Conditions have changed a little overnight, however, that is not necessarily a bad thing at all.
