First Snow of the Season has Hit Japan
Temperatures have been dropping across Japan, bringing the season’s first snow. Nagano received its first snow of the season just the night before last nearby in Hakuba. The Karasawa Hutte sitting at just over 2300 m received a nice dusting. It is surrounded by 4 peaks that are all over 3000m and they were looking nice and white with a fresh cover of snow too. This is however not the first snow for Japan this season. In northern Japan, Hokkaido’s Daisetsuzan park received about 5cm of snow on the 18th of September this area in Kurodake is often the first place to see snow in Japan and was nice and early this year. The first snow also fell in […]
Nozawa Onsen Spring Snow Report 2/4/2019
Nozawa Onsen Spring Snow Report, 2nd of March 2019 We’re certainly getting our bang for buck this Nozawa Onsen spring. The first few days of April aren’t letting us down after what was a truly Magic March. Following the 20 centimetres we awoke to on April Fools’ Day, today we see another 20 cm. Both evenings have added to what was already a healthy base up top for spring skiing. It’s now back up to 3 metres! Most of the lower lifts and runs closed yesterday as planned. However, there’s more than enough snow around. Things are looking good to get us right through up until the 5th of May during Golden Week when the mountain finally stops for the […]
Nozawa Onsen Spring Snow Report 31/3/2019
Nozawa Onsen Spring Snow Report, 31st of March 2019 While it rained all night in the village, up on the mountain, there’s a handful of fresh snow. Just 4 centimetres overnight but a taste of what’s to come perhaps. That’s if the forecast is on the money. Big things are predicted for tomorrow night meaning Tuesday could be a good one on Mount Kenashi. Temperatures are predicted to continue to drop today meaning we could even see snow at village level by late tomorrow. Then again, as so often happens, maybe Mother Nature will make fools of us all and over-deliver on the promise of powder. Beyond tomorrow night, there are a few handfuls here and there before clearing by […]
