Good morning from sunny Nozawa Onsen! 🌞 The mountain offers incredible visibility and breathtaking views again today. Winds are strong up top, so the Nagasaka Gondola may slow or pause—hopefully, they ease soon. Slopes are freshly groomed and in pristine condition, with negative temps keeping the snow perfect. The mountain is open top-to-bottom, except Skyline, where groomers are hard at work. Hikage Kids Park opens today! At 11 AM join us at Hikage for some local treats, drinks, and a rock-paper-scissors tournament with Naski! ☕Don’t forget to swing by the Ski Locker Café, now open for your morning coffee fix on the way to the slopes. Big snowfall is expected tonight through Tuesday—stay safe and enjoy!

❄️ SNOW FORECAST:

We’ve got some strong westerly winds picking up and set to increase throughout the day hopefully lifts will remain in full operation, but some temporary hold offs are expected. Strong winds will continue to keep Nozawa frosty with not only temps dropping but also some big numbers that should cover the mountain in fresh white! Currently the forecast is showing around a meter of snow expected to fall across the resort in the next 72h. Fairly warm temps compared to yesterday on the mountain today but that will change quickly, dropping to -10 degrees and -12 during the night down in the village, so be careful on the roads on Sunday morning as it might get icy! Enjoy the sunshine while it lasts before Nozawa turns into a snow globe!

Good morning from a winter wonderland! 🌨️ It’s snowing heavily here in Nozawa Onsen, with big, fluffy flakes layering the village in white magic. The snow is expected to continue until Thursday night, easing into light snow this afternoon—perfect conditions to hit the slopes or enjoy the serene beauty of the village.

Yesterday brought us a mix of clouds and sunshine peeking through, creating a stunning backdrop for skiers and snowboarders. With negative temps keeping the snow light and fresh, it was a dream day on the mountain. The snow base up top is sitting at 115 cm with 10 cm of fresh overnight—and it’s going up fast! All lifts are running smoothly today with the same courses open, and even more of the mountain is set to open in just a few days. Exciting times ahead!
Christmas is just around the corner, and we couldn’t ask for a better forecast to celebrate the season. Starting Saturday night (the 21st), a massive snowfall is expected to roll in and continue through Tuesday morning—guaranteeing a powder-filled holiday! 🎄❄️

Yesterday’s clouds gave way to stunning views of Mt. Kenashi, and today promises more magical moments with snowfall sprinkling the mountain all day,.

Waking up to a snowy morning again today in Nozawa. Resort reporting 15cm overnight and still some nice fluffy flakes lofting from the sky as we enjoy breakfast at Lodge Nagano. Love those pancakes with local apples :) The base is sitting nicely above the 1 meter mark now and given it is set to keep snowing think will stay there now.
Will be a good powder day up top and should be pretty quiet after what was a busy weekend. Same runs and slopes at this stage but have heard from a good source that Paradise and more runs will open next Saturday the 21st of December. Would not be surprised if we are top to bottom by next weekend even if just on the Forest trail.

Still snowing nicely this morning and we may see some Sun later today. Then snow set to continue for the rest of the week ahead of what could be Sunny weekend. The longer term looking really good too with temps forecast to get proper cold next week and some big snow numbers on the menu. Can safely say a White Christmas is assured this year in Nozawa. If all this skiing is not enough then there is a new top level Gym just opened at Sparena. We have been talking about this for years so great to see it come to fruition. It is free to use today and tomorrow and then some good deals after that so be sure to check it out.

By midday tomorrow, we’re looking at another nice top-up to keep the slopes in tip-top condition. Temperatures will remain chilly at -6°C up top today, with soft snow maintained by the light winds. If this pattern keeps up, we might just be on track for a record-breaking winter season—fingers crossed!
The long-term forecast is just as promising, with more snow set to arrive Sunday night and continuing through midweek. It’s shaping up to be an incredible December!

Yet another white morning in Nozawa!

Big flakes falling down from the sky currently all across the village and the mountain. The snow is predicted to grace us throughout the day with a firm overcast prepping another decent fall of around 30cm from late Friday. The visibility is good however some thick clouds forming closer to the top so go careful! Yesterday had a big powder top up coming up to 25cm of fresh so get ready to dive in that white magic! Lifts and slopes open same as yesterday with Paradise likely to open soon with groomers prepping all those pristine slopes for us.

It seems like the snow gods are not slowing down anytime soon! Snowing all day today easing off by end of day and then picks right back up on Friday night for some Saturday morning powdery tracks. It’s quite chilly up there with down to -9 degrees, Northwestern winds touching up to 30km/s and good visibility up to around 1300m, above misty but rideable. Longterm forecast looks promising with over one meter of snow on the horizon from Saturday night over to Sunday! Gear up, head up and enjoy the best quality of Japanese powder you can find!

Things are shaping up nicely for the week ahead. We should get up to 30cm today with some nice tops ups most days for the whole way until next Wednesday. Can see the resort has groomers on Paradise slope today so guessing they will open that on the weekend and will keep you posted. Still very quiet on the slopes with those who took the chance to come early enjoying some uncrowded runs. Things will be pretty busy by about the 20th of December on so enjoy it while it lasts. Get up there early tomorrow as it could be a powder day!

The landscape in Nozawa Onsen never ceases to amaze us! Just over a week ago, the mountaintops had a light dusting of snow, while the village below was still clinging to autumn’s charm. But today? It’s a whole new world. Powder has spread from top to bottom, transforming the entire area. Walking through the village feels like stepping into an snowy heaven – almost unrecognisable from just last week.

Yesterday brought us amazing conditions on the slopes, with cold temperatures and beautifully soft snow underfoot. For those carving their way through Yamabiko and Uenotaira, it was a day to remember. And the good news keeps coming – with more snow expected to fall steadily over the next week, we’re seeing the mountain come alive with more terrain opening soon.

The forecast is looking very promising, with a mix of light and heavy snowfall predicted every day. If you’re lucky, you might even catch some sunshine breaking through on Sunday, offering the perfect mix of blue skies and snowy peaks 🏔️🎿✨

A stunning morning here in Nozawa Onsen! The village and the mountain are blanketed in pristine white after 24cm of fresh snow fell since yesterday, bringing the base at Yamabiko to a solid 75cm. All Yamabiko runs (A, B, C, D, E) are now open, along with the much-anticipated Uenotaira slope – it’s shaping up to be a perfect day on the slopes.
Yesterday was magical, with snowflakes falling over Nozawa throughout the day, creating incredible conditions. Take advantage of today’s sunshine and the peaceful atmosphere before the village starts to buzz with arriving winter holidaymakers. Make the most of this serene and powder-filled days!

The “Snow Show” continues in Nozawa

Waking up to an even whiter village in Nozawa this morning. The snow has not stopped since yesterday morning, with another 15cm being deposited on the slopes overnight. The good news is the taps are turned fully on and we could see up to another 50cm of snow fall up top throughout today.

Yesterday was a fun powder day on the slopes. Early was pretty busy with Japanese tourists dropping in to make the most of the new snow conditions. There was even a little line to get on the Gondola early but it spread out pretty fast. Good news is with all this snow more of the resort is set to open today and tomorrow! All of Yamabiko should open later today and Uenotaira tomorrow. Great news for beginners.

The snow is still falling nicely in town and will be heavier up top so get up there and enjoy some early season powder runs in.

If you were anxious about early season snow you no longer need to be. As mentioned it will continue to snow heavy today ahead of clear skies the next 3 days. So tomorrow will be a rippa with fresh snow and sunshine and still very few people about it is going to be special. The snow falls return from Wednesday night and continue for 6 days straight! Heavy at times and temps remaining cold this next storm on top of what we have should set us up nicely for a great season ahead.

Since yesterday, the snowfall has been relentless, leaving the mountain covered in a fresh white coat. Really enjoy being in Japan this time of year and seeing the foliage, landscape and temperatures change rapidly. After a long hot Summer that felt like it would never end the cold winter atmosphere is welcomed. Autumn is still hanging on in town and down low but Winter white has taken over up top. Still lots of surfers down at the shores too and some great waves.

Won’t be long until the snow clouds roll across from the Japan Sea and engulf us in the winter wonderland for a few solid months. We may not have to wait long with up to a meter of fresh snow on the forecast from Friday night and across the weekend.

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day on the slopes at Yamabiko but clouds have shifted in up top this morning. May clear a bit this afternoon. The anticipation is building around the village as seasonal staff start to arrive and everyone keeps busy getting shops and lodges ready to welcome all our amazing guests.

Late November’s snowfall has laid a solid foundation, drawing eager visitors to the slopes from early hours. With a 30cm base at the summit, Yamabiko D and Yamabiko E courses are currently open. Excitement is building as we anticipate the Uenotaira slope opening soon, and then more to follow, with heavy snowfall forecast for the weekend. Let’s keep the snow vibes rolling!

Meanwhile, Nozawa Onsen celebrated the first day of preparations for the iconic Dosojin Fire Festival yesterday. Locals came together to plan, craft, and commemorate the building of the symbolic shaden—traditional pyres that form the heart of the festival. These intricately constructed towers represent prayers for good fortune, a bountiful harvest, and protection against evil spirits.
